Did you know about the benefits of music?
“Playing an instrument uses 90% of the brain, while most people (Who do not play instruments) will live their entire lives only accessing about 50% of their brain capacity”.- Dr. Frank Wilson, Neurologist
It’s been proven time and time again by research: music lessons can enhance linguistic, mathematical, spatial, sensory, and reading skills. On the SAT, students who had musical backgrounds have scored higher that their peers who didn’t.
“A study of 8 to 11 year olds found that, those who had extra- curricular music classes, developed higher verbal IQ and visual abilities, in comparision to those with no musical training.” (Forgeard, et al., 2008)
Marching Band 2014 Info Letter
Dear Prospective Marching Band/Color Guard Member:
I would like to cordially invite you to be a member of the 2014 Emerson Jr/Sr High School Cavalier Marching Band!
Participation in Marching Band will be an experience that you will never forget. Teamwork, discipline, and problem solving are just a few of the life skills learned in the Marching Band. Students who participate in Marching Band score higher on standardized tests and are more likely to attend college. Many of our students graduate in the top 10% of their class. Members of our Marching Band will have the opportunity to perform in front of thousands of spectators at amazing events such as the North Jersey Band Festival, Army Band Day at West Point and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in NYC!
We will have two pre-season rehearsals on Wednesday June 4th and Wednesday June 11th from 6:30-8:30pm to meet the staff and begin to learn the music for this year’s show. Band Camp will be the week of August 11-15. During camp, we learn the drill and music for our show! Starting in September, the Marching Band rehearses Wednesday evenings and some Saturday mornings. Enrollment forms will be available on March 1st. All members interested should fill out a form and send it to me at the High School.
I look forward to meeting you in the near future. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at email@example.com

ATTENTION MARCHING BAND!! CHANGE TO FUNDRAISER!
There is a problem with the distributor of the Ghirardelli Hot Cocoa. The 16 oz. cans that were on the original order forms are no longer available. Instead, they are offering the above pictured 10.5 oz. packets. Since this was their fault, they are offering our customers the ability to purchase two packets (total of 21 oz.) for the same price of $10. They CANNOT purchase only one packet for $5. Also, the White Mocha is no longer available, so please do not sell any of those. You can attach this flyer to your order form if necessary. We are sorry for the inconvenience but please keep selling and make sure your orders are in by October 25th! Thanks!!
